In Britain almost two thirds of adults and a third of children are either overweight or obese.
By 2050 it is predicted these figures will rise to almost nine in ten adults and two thirds of children, unless there is intervention.
The Dudley Healthy Towns project will see £4.5 million of investment in our borough under the government’s Healthy Towns project, which aims to pilot ways of reducing obesity levels.
To encourage families to make the most of outdoor areas we are using the money to transform five of the borough’s parks and play areas into healthy hubs.
Each hub has a free outdoor gym, a Healthy Towns building and a dedicated park ranger. Hubs are located throughout the borough, click on your nearest to see what other facilities are available:
The funding is also being used to make active travel corridors, making it easier to cycle and walk safely across the borough.

"I think the outdoor gym is absolutely great for me as a parent who hasn't got time to go to a gym."
Testimonial from local resident
"I am a 68 year old male who had a heart attack followed by a triple bypass operation in 1997, and I am conscious of the need to keep myself fit.
The outdoor gym is a huge benefit to the population and myself in particular."
Testimonial from Dudley Borough resident Tony Jackons
