A healthy diet is a balanced diet, including plenty of fruit and vegetables, plenty of unrefined starchy carbohydrate foods such as whole wheat pasta and wholemeal bread, some meat, fish, eggs or pulses such as lentils and beans, and some milk and dairy food such as yoghurt, cheese and milk.

No one single food contains all the nutrients that the body needs so a wide variety of foods should be consumed for a healthy diet. Choose foods that are different in taste, texture and colour to offer interest and ensure a variety of nutrients are consumed.
